Rare Sword and Scabbard Mongo – Kundu - Konda Tribes Zaire - 6788
A nice example of a sword and scabbard of the Mongo people of central Zaire, and specifically by the tribes of the Konda and Kundu tribes. A similar example is shown in African Metal Implements, Hillwood Art Gallery NY Page 36, Fig. 157. It is very rare to find the sword complete with its scabbard. The blade is 12 ½ inches long, fullered in its center. The hilt and scabbard are wood set with many brass tacks and brass wires. Total length 17 inches. Good condition. Age worn overall small chip to the scabbard wood at its top and crack on its side.
