The origin of this knife / dagger is a bit obscure. It is definitely central Africa, probably central Zaire, may be Kota (?).Nevertheless, it is very impressive in its dimensions, shape and quality. The blade is 14 inches long, widening to more than 8 inches at its widest point. Total length 20 inches. Very good quality in terms of African weaponry. Good forging and reinforced edges and central rib. “scratched” lines decoration. Wood hilt partially covered with copper strips. Excellent condition. The very good original black patina on the blade and natural dark brown patina on the wood grip indicate an old age, probably mid 19 C. All parts original and authentic. The white painted number on the pommel indicate it is coming from a museum or other important collection.
