Good Balkan Yatagan Sword dated 1861 - 6726

A nice example of a classical “YATAGAN” from the Balkan with a 24 inches long blade decorated with Arabic inscription in silver koftgari and dated to 1278 in the Islamic calendar corresponds to 1861 in the Gregorian calendar. The grips with the side ears are carved from walrus ivory. The grip strap and the blade collar fittings are made of gilded copper with filigree work set with Coral stones. Total length 30 inches. Good condition. There is a ˝ crack in the blade about 6 inches from the tip but hold very solid. No scabbard. |
