18 C. Whole Steel Ankus (Elephant Goad) India - 6442


This is an Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. Although it is not a pure weapon, it is always shown in Museum and private collection in connection to Indian arms and armor. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. This one is very old, probably late 18 C. of whole steel construction with 6 inches steel blademountd on a steel haft with a neavy brass ring at the bottom. Elaborate work on steel in the decoration. Total length 22 inches. Good condition. This item is an original unusual piece and a very interesting addition to any Indian art / or edged weapon collection.
