Piso Podang, Sword of the Batak, Sumatra - 6766

The Podang, sometimes also known as Piso Podang is a sword common to Sumatra and specifically to the Batak People. The influence of the Indian Tulwar sword on its specific hilt shape is evident. This one has a single edged fullered and curved blade, 27 inches long. The bras hilt is of a typical form with a reverse cup shape pommel. Wood scabbard bound with braided rattan bands. Very good condition, slightly blackened blade, partially cracked scabbard but holds well. Few of the rattan bands on scabbard are missing.
