The blade of this Massive Kard knife is forged out of very good Persian wootz. It is heavy 8 ¾ inches long single edged. The grips are elephant ivory with nice age patina, riveted to the blade tang with concealed rivets. Steel grip strap with gold koftgari decoration (mostly lost now). The scabbard is wood with its original Shagreen leather cover and silver tip embossed in typical Persian birds motifs. A piece of old fabric was inserted under the tip and covers part of the original leather. This is a very good piece of wootz steel, probably 18 Century from Persia. Polishing and etching will further emphasize and strengthen the pattern. The blade is in good condition. The gold decoration on the grip strap is worn and remains only on its lower part. A great piece for the lovers of wootz steel.
