This beautiful Azde / Axe is coming most probably from Dahomey, (now known as the Republic of Benin). The short heavy blade is 5 inches long, 1 ¾ inches wide, lightly engraved on both sides is mounted on a 20 inches hardwood haft styled as a human figure. An old hand written label is glued to the lower part of the haft. Hardly legible but ending with the words West Africa. probably a tag from an old collection. A very nice and authentic 19 C. item in excellent condition.
