Up for sale is this very rare Qauata Club / Shield from the Solomon Islands. The hooked shape shield is used also as a club, and with its massive 20 inches long 5 inches wide blade it can certainly do a good job. It is beautifully carved from hardwood in one piece with the haft. Total length (tip of blade to tip of haft) 45 inches. A very similar shield is shown in: Boucliers, d’Afrique, d’Ase du Sud-Est et d’Oceanie (Shields from Africa, South East Asia and Oceania ) , Barbier-Muller Museum, page 228. Very good condition. A prize for the collector of tribal arts / Oceania.
