Authentic Knife of the Mangbetu Tribe - 6632

The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. One of the photos show a drawing from the late 19 C. of Munza the king of the Mangbetu on his crown, holding high a similar knife as a symbol of power and authority. This one is a late 19 or early 20 C. piece, sickle shaped. 9 12/ inches (point to point) blade, 16 inches total length (tip of blade to pommel). The handle is wood bound with plain and twisted copper wires and the pommel is ribbed. Very good condition, Original blackened color of the blade and very good age patina on the handle. |
