Massive and Heavy Dayak Mandau Sword - 14785


This MANDAU (sometimes also called “Parang Ihlang”) is a late 19C with a massive 25 inches long 14 mm thick blade decorated with brass inserts. The handle is “L” shaped, carved from bone and bound with braided rattan strips. Dark wood scabbard partially pierced front face, bound with rattan strips. A rear compartment made of wood bark for acompany knife (missing). Original braided rattan carrying belt. Total length 31 inch. Very good condition. Minor blackened spots on the blade. An original authentic piece for real use.
