Very Good Aceh Klewng, Sumatra - 5793

A very good and long Klewang, one of the many variations of the Indonesian machete like knife. This one is probably Acehnese from Sumatra, the second half of the 19th C. The blade is straight and single edge, 22 ½ inches long with a 13 inches long fuller just below the spine. There are clear indication that it is forged from laminated pattern steel. The steel bolster is forged in a polygonal shape. The hilt is carved of horn in a typical forked pommel and beautifully carved all around. The grip collar is Sawossa (gold/copper alloy). The scabbard is made of light wood, with a very nice black patina (partially restored). Total length is 29 inches. There are few forging flaws in the blade and several pitted areas, but this does not distract from the blade beauty. The grip collar has a small crack and some in the scabbard. The upper part of the scabbard near the tip is restored. It is quite difficult to find these Klewang complete with its scabbard, and every collector of Indonesian weapons / art should love to add it to his collection. Very reasonable price.
