Ceremonial axe of the Toma people, Siarra Leona - 13815

The Toma people, (also known as Loma and/or Buzi) are a subgroup of the large Mande group of west Africa. The Toma resides mostly in Sierra Leone. They carry a typical ceremonial axe. The one offered here is a good example but made of brass blade in contrary to the steel blades ones. Blade 4 1/2 inches decorated with punched circles design. Wood handle with ivory tip. Length 14 inches, Very good condition. |
