Very Good Shotel Sword, Ethiopia - 13715

The Shotel is the traditional sword of the Abyssinian (Ethiopia). It looks like a huge sickle, with a long blade deeply curved almost to half circle. The purpose of this very awkward blade is to strike over or around the shield of an opponent. The Shotel offered here for sale has a finely forged nicely fullered heavy and deadly sharp blade, 31 Inches long, (point to point) with three central fullers. The blade is marked in several places. The hilt is made of three horn sectors in a classical form with a brass dme pommel cap. It is probably dated to the early 20 C. Very good condition. no scabbard. Impressive heavy Shotel.
