This fine Yataghan is coming from the Balkan region of the Ottoman empire. Mid 19 C. or earlier. Classical shaped blade forged from Wootz (Damascus, watered) steel (rare) inlaid with gold decoration and inscription in Arabic letters. Steel bolsters and grip strap also with gold inlay work. Walrus grips with big pommel ears. Whole silver scabbard finely chased with partial traces of gilding. Total length 29 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Cracked grips but hold solid.
