A very fine RENTONG knife / dagger from the Malay Archipelago. The version offered here is mostly used by the Acehnese people from North West Sumatra. The blade is 8 1/2 inches long down curving and single edged, most probably forged from laminated steel. Octagonal steel bolster. The hilt is wood with sharply up-curving pommel entirely mounted with gold, deeply engraved with blackened pattern. The scabbard is finely engraved wood. Total length 15 inches. Very good condition. Very rare and impressive item from the second half of the 19th C .
