Fine and Rare Ayda Katti Sword, Coorg, India - 13609


The Ayda Katti is the national sword of the Coorg of Malabar, the South West coastal area of India. It is one of the rarest swords in the Indian arsenal and of a very peculiar shape. It reminds in a way an agricultural tool, but it is a real weapon and a deadly one in the experienced hands. This fine exemplar is of large size, 18 inches long blade 4 inches widw with line of brass inserts along the spine. Ivory handle with ivory kyte shaped pommel with engraved brass inserts. Beautifully engraved brass bolster. Total length 25 inches. Very good condition. very minor blackened spots on the blade. very few inserts missing. Very impressive sword
