Very Fine Knife / Dagger from the Island of Crete - 13563

This is a very fine example of the knife from the island of Crete in the Mediterranean. Second half of the 19C. 9 1/2 inches single edge blade with a T shaped spine, typically engraved. The handle is made of ivory grips widening toward the pommel in a form of split ears. The bolster and grip strap are engraved silver set with a tweezers with ivory head on the pommel side. Heavy deeply chased silver scabbard with decorative silver chains set with coral bids and old Ottoman silver coin dated to 1277 ( 1860). Total length in scabbard 16 1/2 inches. Very good plus condition. All parts original and in excellent shape. No replacements or restorations. |
