This small hand shield / buckler is an old ceremonial shield of the Mwami Society of the Rega (Lega) region of Zaire. It is 15 inches long, 3 inches wide, carved of wood and covered with rattan. Very good condition. A very rare item. A similar shield is shown on D Plaschke, M.A. Zirngibl. African shields page 82 fig. 73.
