Very Rare Rattan War Shield, Kota, Zaire - 6361


This fantastic shield was in use by the Kota, Saka, Ntomba and other tribes residing in central north Zaire. It is a 54 inches high, 17 inches wide, masterpiece of braided rattan work bound around two central poles. The front side is painted in red and white pattern. Good condition. Handle is missing and central rods are split in one spot (see close-ups). Few rattan strips are broken or torn. All parts and painting are original.
