Good Turkish Yatagan Sword with Ivory Grip - 6161

A nice example of a classical “YATAGAN”. The Yatagan derives its shape from very old blades. Its peculiar shaped blade has a down curving blade with reinforced spine, and it is found in many weapons in the eastern world from the West Balkan countries to the far Indian sub-continent. Its eared pommel shape is known from very old days and similar pommels were found in swords from Luristan 3000 years ago. This specific example is of Turkish origin, has a 25 inches long marked with a maker sign. The grips with the side ears are elephant ivory and the grip strap is silver decorated with Niello design. No scabbard. Total length 30 inches. Good condition. Several repairs on the grip strap. A very elegant example at a very reasonable price. |
