Rare 16C Ottoman Breast Plate Armor (krug) With St. Irene Armory Marks - 13248

Up for sale is this rare, early 16C Ottoman breast armor (krug) comprising of a circular breast plate embossed with a series of very narrow ribs radiating from a central boss and with three smaller shaped plates attached to it by steel rings (minor losses). Also retaining the outer plates for protecting the lower neck and arm openings. Both the central plate and the neck plate are struck with the mark of the Ottoman Court Arsenal at Hagia Eirene (St. Irene). Very good condition to age. Small holes in the plates. Interesting to note that the mail is composed of a line of welded rings connected with a line of riveted rings – A technique common in early Ottoman mail armor. Very rare. |
