Pakayun, Very Rare Sword of the Murut, Borneo - 13240

The Pakayun is the classical sword / saber of the Murut people residing in Northern Kalimantan (Borneo). It has a curved heavy blade, 27 inches long forged from laminated steel. The handle is hardwood with forked pommel, blackened brass plate cross guard and collar and braided rattan cover on the pommel. The scabbard is wood carved with geometric design and bound with iron bands. A side knife in the style of a Piso Raout (usually found on Mandau swords) with a bone handle is bound to the scabbard with rattan strips and braided cord. Total length 34 ½ inches. Very good condition. The binding of the side knife over the wood carving of the scabbard may suggest it is a later addition, however it is an old addition and looks authentic. . A rare sword
