Fine Knife / Axe of the Mangbetu Tribe - 13233

The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. One of the photos show a drawing from the late 19 C. of Munza the king of the Mangbetu on his crown, holding high a similar knife as a symbol of power and authority. This one is early 20 C. well forged, sickle shaped. 9 inches blade, 13 inches total. The handle is Ivory. Very good condition. Original blackening of the blade with the edges only polished.
