The Songye people reside in central Zaire and are known to be masters in metal work. Men of the Songye families carry an axe made in a very interesting blacksmith work in iron. Here is such a good example. 8 inches blade and 15 1/2 inches wood haft entirely covered with copper. Very good condition. Minor edge nicks. Old repair in the center of the haft.
