Knife / Axe of the Mangbetu Tribe - 13205

The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. One of the photos show a drawing from the late 19 C. of Munza the king of the Mangbetu on his crown, holding high a similar knife as a symbol of power and authority. This one is early 20 C. heavy well forged, sickle shaped. 9 ½ inches blade, 15 inches total. The handle is wood . Very good condition. Original blackening of the blade with the edges only polished.
