The Shotel is the traditional sword of the Abyssinian (Ethiopia). It looks like a huge sickle, with a long blade deeply curved almost to half circle. The purpose of this very awkward blade is to strike over or around the shield of an opponent. It has a slender blade of diamond cross section 40 Inches long point to point (The ruler is 40 inches long). The hilt is horn, lightly damaged. Total length 45 inches. Good condition. Few chips to the Horn hilt. No scabbard. 19C. This is the largest Shotel we have ever seen.
