Authentic Fine Knife / Axe of the Mangbetu Tribe with Ivory Grip - 13085

The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. One of the photos show a late 19 C drawing of Munza the king of the Mangbetu on his crown, holding high a similar knife as a symbol of power and authority. This one is a late 19 C., sickle shaped. 8 inches (point to point)very well forged blade, 14 inches total length. The handle is a rare type of carved ivory figure, with nice dot decoration and good age patina.Very good condition.
