Good Old Knife/ Axe Mangbetu Tribe - 13026

The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. A photo below shows a drawing from the late 19 C. of Munza the king of the Mangbetu on his crown, holding high a similar knife as a symbol of power and authority. This one is late 19 C or early 20 C. piece, sickle shaped, vary well forged and sharpened all around. Blade 9 inches long, 8 inches wide total length (tip of blade to pommel) 16 inches. The blade maintained its original blackening with polish edges. Very good condition. Small cracks to the wood hilt.
