Superb 18 C. Ottoman Court Dagger Wootz Blade - 6317

This superb wootz dagger is also known as Ottoman Court Dagger. it was a side arm of the nobilities visiting the courts of the Ottoman empire in the 17 and 18 C. The thick blade is of diamond cross section, 14 inches long, tapering to an acute tip. It is forged from very good black Persian wootz (Damascus steel). The grip is elephant ivory, probably 19 C. and somewhat later to the blade, and the scabbard is wood covered with black leather and mounted with engraved silver locket and chape. Very good condition. Few pitted spot near the blade tip. Minor damage to the silver locket. The top of the locket is newly made. |
