This heavy shamshir sword is probably Turkish with some later Syrian – Arab modifications. The blade is wootz (Damascus, watered) steel, Persian made trade blade31 ½ inches long, late 18 - early 19C., signed by the maker. Silver cross guard. Later late 19 – early 20C. replaced grip strap and horn grips bound with silver wire, probably a Syrian –Arab modification. Total length 37 inches. Very good condition. Very light blackened spots near the blade tip. No scabbard.
