Very Good, Heavy Parang Nabur Sword from Kalimantan (Borneo) - 12925

Up for sale is this very good example of the Parang Nabur sword from Kalimantan (Borneo). This saber shaped sword with the D guard is strongly influenced from the naval cutlasses carried by the Dutch sailors, and shows a perfect blend of European with Islamic styles. Up-curving heavy and massive blade 21 inches long, widening to 2 inches wide with a 7 inches back edge, engraved and pierced at the tip. The grip is wood with a heavy brass collar. The cross guard and D guard are brass. Wood scabbard painted dark red with braided rattan bands. Total length 28 ½ inches. Very good condition. Minor losses and repairs on the scabbard. A very good late 19 C. example. |
