Extremity Rare Late 15C Ottoman Helmet From St Irene Arsenal - 12134

Here we offer an important late 15C or early 16C Ottoman helmet. It has a domed conical shaped body with knop finial. The base is marked with the Saint Irene arsenal mark. Saint Irene Church is located within the Topkapi palace area and was converted in the mid 15C to the armory of the ottoman Janissaries where they also kept their war booty. It is missing the visor, cheek and nasal guard. There is one old crack to the steel. Also there is a recent restoration to another crack. Most of the early ottoman helmet being offered on the market are modern fakes. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine item from the period.
