Fine and Heavy Turkish Shamshir Sword - 12860

This heavy sword is Turkish, mid 19C. or earlier. It employs a heavy trade blade, probably Persian, curved and finely fullered 32 inches long 1 ½ inches wide. The blade is finely forged from wootz (Damascus, watered) steel of high contrast pattern. It is chiseled with Arabic inscription from the Koran, and with a lion shaped maker mark. The grips are rhino horn and the cross guard is gilded silver. Total length 37 ½ inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. |
