Fine Enameled Jambiya Dagger from the Hijaz - 12838


This type of long Jambiya dagger is common in the Western regions of Arabia, Hijaz and Asir. Sometimes it is referred to by collectors as Wahabite style. The one offered here is exceptional in quality and decoration. Mid 20C. with an earlier, 18C. Turkish blade finely fullered with traces of gold inlay decoration. The handle as well as the scabbard are deeply chased copper decorated with blue enamel. Cast brass mounts. Blade 13, total length 22 inches. Very good condition. Minor pitted spots on the blade. Some losses to the enamel on the rear face. The leather band in the middle of the scabbard is a later replacement.
