Rare Military Afghan Saber with Gold Inlaid Wootz Blade - 12725


By the end of the 19 C. during the British – Afghan wars, the Afghani military forces were equipped with a variety of swords in a military style. This is one example of such sword. Its employ an earlier, probably 18C, fine Persian shamshir blade, 31 inches long, forged from high quality wootz (Damascus, watered) steel, signed with gold inlay panels. Handle with steel cross guard and D Guard, ivory grips and down curving steel pommel. Origianl leather covered scabbard with long steel locket and chape. Total length 36 inches.
