Very Rare Ceremonial Moro Kris, the Largest Ever - 12690
Up for sale is this huge Moro Kris sword, a ceremonial one made for special occasions to represent the Sultan. 51 ½ inches (147 cm) long. It is shown below next to a common size Kris sword. Early – mid 20C. The blade is earlier, 23 inches long, probably a secondary use from a common Kris sword. The huge handle is made of fine filigree gilded copper with a very large 9 ½ inches long pommel cut and carved from a massive single ivory piece. The wood scabbard is bound with chased white metal bands. Very good condition. Several early repairs on the scabbard. An outstanding piece. For a similar one see Robert Hales, Islamic and oriental Arms and Armor P. 121, Fig.290. |
