Fine Early Malay Kris Sword with Twisted Steel Blade . - 12657

This Kris sword is an early version, probably late 18 to early 19 C, Malay origin. The fine blade is forged from twisted steel core, forge welded between high carbon steel hard edges. Blade length 20 inches wavy at its top and straight on its lower third. The grip is bound with thread in a classical binding and the Cockatoo style pommel is made of bone. Wood scabbard. Total length 26 ½ inches. Very good condition. Fine age patina on the pommel. A rare form. The blade shape, the steel structure and the heavily age patina on the bone pommel all support our estimate for the age and origin.
