Silver Mounted Pedang Sword Java - 6261


The ‘Pedang’ is an Indonesian short sword, common in Java but can be found also in other Indonesian islands. This one is one of quality highly decorated and probably belonged to a high ranking person. The blade is 16 inches long, straight back, with slightly down curving tip and with 9 inches back edge. It is forged from very good pamor steel clearly evident. The hilt is worked in heavy silver in an elaborate floral design, highly decorated and engraved. The scabbard is wood covered with thin silver sheet engraved in a very intricate design. Very good condition with only small area of denting to the top of the silver sheath. Very good item, dated probably to the second half of the 19 C, offered at a very special price.
