Good Old Kattara Sword From Oman - 12583


This sword from Oman also known as Kattara. This type of sword, which is very similar to the older Islamic swords from the 11th 12th centuries, was popular in the Gulf countries during the 18th and the 19th Centuries. It has a very long 32 inches, straight and double edge blade of high quality 17 C. or earlier with traces of engraving of the running wolf of Passau and Solingen. Hilt is wood, bound with leather strips and embroidered with silver wires with an early repair at the top. The pommel is a heavy square steel piece and used as a counter weight to the very well balanced long blade. Total length 39 inches. Good condition. Blade lightly distorted.
