Acheen Klewang Sword from Sumatra, Damascus Blade - 6154

A very interesting Klewang, one of the many variations of the Indonesian machete like knife. This one is probably Acheen from Sumatra, the second half of the 19th C. The blade is straight and single edge, 20 ½ inches long with a 13 inches long fuller just below the spine forged from a very beautiful pattern welded steel. The steel bolster is of polygonal shape. The hilt is carved of horn in a typical forked pommel. The scabbard is made of light colored wood, very finely engraved and bound with silver bands. Total length is 28 ½ inches. Very good condition, only a minor chip in the wood scabbard that was re-glued. It is quite difficult to find these Klewang complete with its scabbard, and every collector of Indonesian weapons / art should love to add it to his collection.
