Very Good Moroccan Koumaya Dagger - 12563

The Moroccan version of the Arab Jambiya dagger is locally called Koumaya and characterized by a slender blade, usually dual edged at its lower half and single edge at the top. There is a big variety in the decoration styles and quality of the handles and scabbards. This one is a very good example, early 20 C. Very Good quality 9 ½ inches engraved blade of hollow ground cross section. Wood handle with red painting and large brass collar and pommel crown. The scabbard is finely chased ighly polished brass. Total length 16 inches. Very good condition. The tip of the scabbard is covered with a piece of hide, probably to strengthen it or to conceal bent or damage. Very old addition. |
