Fantastic Ottoman Shamshir Sword with Twisted Steel Blade - 12491


This is very fine and rare Turkish Shamshir, from early 19 C. The 35 inches blade is forged from the classical Ottoman structure of folded and twisted steel rods, in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon. The blade is dated 1253 in the hijri calender (1837 Gregorian date). Rhino horn grips with chased silver grip strap and fine silver cross guard inscribe with a name and dated 1850. Scabbard covered with original leather, with spiral stitching, mounted with heavy silver locket and chape, very finely chased. Original dark red suspension baldric. Total length 39 inches. Very good condition. It is very rare to find Shamshir swords with the twisted steel pattern almost all blades with this pattern are of Yatghans. A very fine, complete and impressive sword.
