Lohar, Pick Dagger from Afghanistan - 12405


A “LOHAR”, the traditional pick/ axe / dagger of the Banochie tribe from the Khayber pass area in Afghanistan. Each men in the tribe makes and decorates its own LOHAR, and each individual has his own patterns which differs from those used by other men. Yet they all have a similar shape: A short and light axe/pick blade mounted on a short handle. It is a very efficient weapon in the experience hand. This specific example has a 6 inches blade and a 8 inches haft filed in geometrical design and decorated with inlaid silver and brass. The handle is bone decorated with red painted lines and circles with a brass collar and pommel. Total length is 12 inches. All in very good solid condition.
