Rare Indo-Afghan Cobra Short Sword - 12394


This type of sword is generally referred to as Indo-Afghan, rightfully describing the mixed Indian and Afghan elements. These swords are sometimes also referred to as Cobra swords or Pahari Swords. The are characterized by the Afghan style handle and Indian straight blade bulged at the ricasso. This one has a rather long 31 inches blade, widens to finely pierced 4 inches wide bulge at its top. Classical Afghan whole steel handle. Total length 36 ½ inches. Probably 18 C. item or earlier. Good condition to age. Lightly pitted allover and cleaned. Small damage to the bulged area.
