Very Fine Persian Khangar Dagger with Wootz Blade - 12354


This very fine Khanjar dagger is Persian. 18 C. blade with late 19C. scabbard. Classical curved and double edge blade with central rib and partially reinforced edges. The blade is forged from very fine wootz (Damascus, watered) steel of high contrast pattern. Walrus ivory handle. Later silver scabbard decorated with many chased brass flowers all around. Blade 8 ½ inches total 12 ½ inches. Very good condition. Very minor blackened spots on the blade. Minor dents on the scabbard. The scabbard silver mouth is restored. The scabbard decoration style reminds in a way the European influenced decoration on Ottoman decorative arts common in the late 19C.
