Rare Panabs, Execution Sword, Moro, Philippines - 12312


The ‘Panabas’ is a long, heavy, two handed jungle knife, used by the Moro’s of the Philippines and supposedly was used also for execution. The blade comes in various shapes, (See also: Robert Cato, Moro Swords fig. 55 ). This one is earlier, probably mid – late 19C. and of a rare form. A Finely forged from laminated steel a re-curving blade 15 inches long with its 8 inches at the front double edged and set with brass inserts. The grip is wood bound with braided rattan bands, brass collar and steel bound pommel. Total length 29 inches. Very good condition. This item is coming from the John Woodman Higgins Armory Collection . Acquired in 1946.
