Rare and Unusual Salawar Yataghan Sword, India - 12276


Salawar Yataghan sword, also known more commonly as Khayber sword, is believed to be an evolution from an antique ancestor of the common Yataghan swords. Here we offer for sell a rare exemplar which clearly shows the ties between the two families of swords: The Turkish / Ottoman Yataghan and the Indian Khayber sword. Early 19C. sword with adown curving Yataghan shaped, single edge blade, 23 inches long, with a typical 2 inches Indian style ricasso. Elephant ivory grips with steel bolsters and grip strap and a lobbed pommel similar to many found on Khayber swords. Total length 27 inches. Very good condition. Traces of silver inlay decoration on the bolsters.
