Good Early Turkish Yatagan with Scabbard - 6205

A very early example of the “YATAGAN”, the famous Ottoman sword. The Yatagan derives its shape from very old blades. Its peculiar shaped blade has a down curving blade with reinforced spine, and it is found in many weapons in the eastern world from the West Balkan countries to the far Indian sub-continent. Its eared pommel shape is known from very old days and similar pommels were found in swords from Luristan 3000 years ago. This specific example is an early one, late 18 or early 19 C., probably of Turkish origin. It has a 21 inches long blade widening to a maximum at about 7 inches from the tip and heavily inlaid with silver wires on one of its faces. The black horn grips comes with big side ears extending 4 inches tip to tip. The grip strap and the blade collar is pewter. Wood scabbard covered with fabric (New) and engraved brass fittings. Total length 29 inches. Good condition. One side of the blade is moderatly pitted. Very minor chips to the horn and small parts of the silver inlay are missing. The brass tip of the scabbard is demaged and partially repaired. Nice example offered here at a very low price.
