Fine Afghan Wootz Karud Dagger - 11906

This Karud dagger is the straight back member of the family of the Pesh-Kabz, Choora and Khyber Knife. The whole family of such daggers is common to India, Persia and several Central Asian countries. This fine exemplar is most probably of Afghan origin, mid – late 19C. The blade is forged from beautiful wootz (Damascus, watered ) steel, 12 inches long, with a pronounced T spine tapering to an acute tip. The grips are made from slabs of Elephant ivory. The bolsters are steel and the grip strap is silver. Wood scabbard with steel chape and (later) leather cover. This Karud dagger comes with its original leather sleeve with baldric carrying leather strips. Total length 19 inches. Very good condition. Very Impressive long dagger. |
