This large dagger / short sword is a Qama, Turkish, early 19 C. The massive blade is straight, double edged, finely fullered with gold koftgari decoration including Arabic inscription and date 1238 (1822 in the Gregorian calendar). Massive single piece walrus ivory handle of classical form. Original wood scabbard covered with leather and mounted with white metal locket and chape (later). Blade 17 inches long 2 inches wide. Total length 23 inches. Very good condition. Losses to the gold work. Scabbard seam partially open.
